Help Save Toll Canyon
Utah Open Lands has been given the golden opportunity to purchase 781 acres of forest, trails and watershed adjacent to Summit Park. Unfortunately the nonprofit still needs more funding to seal the deal.
They need to raise $250,000 by the end of December. The property is currently held by RE Investment Holdings LLC. If the funds cannot be raised, RE Investment will move forward with development plans. See article in the Salt Lake Tribune
They are asking the communities affected by this purchase, Pinebrook, Timberline and Summit Park to contribute. Pinebrook has made a generous contribution.
The SPHA Board is considering making a contribution on behave of each of it’s members. We are looking for feed back from the community.

We have been waiting for this oportunity to lock up this land for a long time. Lets not allow it to be filled with trophy homes, roads and traffic. We need to leave it to the moose, deer and all the other critters that call it home. With this land acqusition, SP will secure a place as one of the finest locations to live in Summit County. Lets do something about it and put our money where feet like to hike.

Just made a donation. What a wonderful cause and opportunity. Thanks to Utah Open Lands for leading the efforts to prevent development of one of the most beautiful canyons in Utah.

Please help if you can! I’d hate to see the destruction of Toll Canyon and the extra traffic the development would create.

Just contributed, too. Hope Utah Open Lands is successful.

I just donated too! What else can we do to help ensure this canyon is protected?

Your efforts have been paying off and what else you can do to help… From Sancy and Craig
1. Fundraising status: Utah Open Lands reported receiving 46 donations totalling $39,000 today — strong work you guys!! This averaged out to $847.00 per donor — WOW!! While these initial efforts are encouraging, we can’t think that other people will foot the bill — we still have $211,000 left to go.We hope that many people are planning to make their donations at the New Park Fundraiser, but we need to continue to encourage people to make donations of ANY AMOUNT as well. Part of the point is to demonstrate that the community is in support of this project. The greater number of donors we can have on the books, the more support we can show. Remember, if the community can raise the $250K before the end of the month, the sellers have agreed to reduce the purchase price by over $600K, so your contributions will go farther than your own donation. Great start, thanks to those who have already donated, if you haven’t yet, go to https://www.utahopenlands.org/donations/donations.htm. to donate or RSVP to Catherine@utahopenlands.org to attend the Fundraiser at New Park Resort on Dec. 13, 6-8 pm (all proceeds to go to Toll Canyon Project).
2. Save the date: The Summit County Council will be holding a public hearing to hear from their constituents regarding the purchase of Toll Canyon. We believe this meeting will be on Dec. 19 in Coalville. Tentatively the County Council will meet with Park City Municipal Government to discuss the transaction the next day, on Dec. 20. We will confirm the times and locations and get back to you. It will be very important for us to show up for these meetings to express our support for the purchase.
3. Opportunity for exercise, good Karma, and face-to-face dialog (a rarity in the digital age!): This Sun. Dec. 9 at 9:00 am, we will begin canvassing and soliciting donations in the Pinebrook, Timberline, and Summit Park Neighborhoods. We plan to meet at 9:00 at Park City Bread & Bagel in the quarry VIllage Shopping Center. If you are willing to participate with us, please RSVP by 12:00 noon on Sat. so we can determine the most effective areas based on the number of volunteers available. We’ll be there snow or shine. This should be fun — we are looking forward to seeing you!

WE support the HOA’s move to contribute to this important cause and we’ll do what we can as individuals. Thank you.

I’m a resident of Summit Park for 19 years…this is such an important issue for so many of us who recreate in the canyon and for the safety of the wildlife as well I just made a pledge. Can we ask the SPHA to send out another email with a more urgent headline? Alot of folks may not have read it. Also, any hope for getting the meeting to be relocated to the Kimball junction library bldg.? It would encourage much more participation. A huge “thank-you” for all your efforts on this critical issue Chris! Nancy Bradish, Summit Park resident and HOA member.

Utah Open Lands’ website reports today that they have raised $83,500 of the necessary $250,000. With approximately 5,000 households in Summit Park, Timberline, and Pinebrook, a donation of only $35 per household would achieve the goal of private funds to preserve this incredible canyon. With funds tight for many families, one option may even be to considering asking family and friends to donate to Toll Canyon rather than giving a present for the holidays–it’s a win-win–tax-deductible donation and a step toward the canyon’s preservation!

I just returned from the Summit County Council meeting, and thought many would be interested in learning of the results (which I’m sure will also be disseminated on the Utah Open Lands site and reported in the Park Record). Utah Open Lands announced that they have raised the $250K in private donations and pledges required to move forward with the purchase of the canyon. All speakers in the public hearing spoke in favor of approval of the preservation of Toll Canyon, and the Summit County Council voted unanimously in favor of approving the purchase of the canyon. In addition, Basin Recreation reported that they are moving forward with the $2 million downpayment on the canyon’s purchase. Thank you so much to all of the parties involved, and a particular thank you to all of the residents of Summit Park who have donated and worked to support the preservation of this remarkable canyon.
